Brokenhearted on Purpose: Healing a Broken Heart

By Katina Brown

The truth of the matter is we all experience the pain of broken heartedness due to situations we really don’t expect to happen. Broken hearts often are caused by failed marriages, failing relationships with family and friends, rebelling children, loss or injury or dealing with our very own disappointments.

For sure if we could order our own steps and order our own lives we would, but in that, there really wouldn’t be any benefit to us. There would be no making of our character and there would be so much selfishness until we wouldn’t benefit anybody else. So for this reason I believe Gods word when he said, I created all things in and on the earth, for my purpose, for my plan, for my will. So we must live this out daily that means even through broken heartedness we still belong to God and we are responsible for the words he has given to us.

The effects of a broken heart are evident and often what is on the inside of us reveals itself in outward expression. Ruth 1:20-22, gives us a great example of what a broken heart can do to our flesh; it will cause bitterness and self pity causing you to speak negatively of yourself and to others without really paying close attention to your words. These effects are no excuse to God concerning us though. He promised in his word that he “came to heal the broken hearted” in Isaiah 61:1. He also promised to mend our hearts, to mend means to restore. His holy spirit abiding in us and standing on his promise to heal all our wounds in his due time allows us to walk in integrity and be assured of his attention towards us and our problems. Ecclesiastes 3:1, tells us “there is a time and season for everything,” so there is a time allotted for all things but the blessing is knowing you are coming out sooner than you think, if you trust God about your due time. Don’t take his promises lightly; 2 Corinthians 1:20, Gods promises are true, “yes and through him amen.” Numbers 23:19,”God can not lie, neither is he the son of man that he should repent, if he said it, and he did, he will make it good.” That’s why we need him, he is the only one who can bless you, bring you through with integrity and heal you.

Just as a natural life has a process of beginning, middle and ending. So does our spiritual life, it’s the acceptance, the process, and eternal reward. Also, situations in our lives have a start and finish. When we take note and realize that many situations are apart of our process we can become stronger. Sometimes we never know how long our process or season is for certain events and situations in our lives, however, maintaining integrity in God will bring about a deliverance and breakthrough even before the battle is over. The word of the Lord says, Matthew 4:4, “man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” His word brings life to any situation. Our words if not in line with his word can bring death or in alignment can add or bring life to our situations. Proverbs 31:26 says, “Out of her mouth is wisdom and on her tongue is the law of kindness.” We have to train our minds to refer to his word concerning our hearts, and speak his word in our test and trials. No one is exempt from this, but we have a promise of Victory, that God is on our side and not against us. Since we are taught to guard our hearts for out of our heart flows the issues of life.

We need the Holy Spirit to help us, Both Men and women, particularly speaking to younger and older women because we were created to nurture, to love, we were created to birth and we were created to be help meets, sensitive and strong. The enemy desires to sift us as wheat and he will use every temptation to fight you against your purpose as a Godly woman. God has given us victory to fight broken heartedness. Our weapons are not carnal, but mighty through the pulling down of strongholds and everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. We no longer have to hide our pain or try to be stronger than we really are. God knows us inside and outside and he wants us to worship him in spirit and in truth. Broken heartedness can hinder our prayers and worship life. We have to yield to the Holy Spirit for help and guidance so that we are effective to ourselves and to others. God is a God of truth and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. He will not dwell in anything unclean, and we need his presence more than anything in our lives. So let’s unify ourselves with him and trust him with our whole hearts. Jesus came to heal the broken hearted, we know longer have to pass on and carry around the disastrous effects of a broken heart. Our pain is our testimony, because right there is where God will and wants to reveal his Glory.

God will allow you to be strengthened and healed when you rely on him to meet the need you place before him. John 15:7, says, “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you can ask whatever you will and it will be given unto you”. I asked for Healing from a broken heart. What did you ask for?
